Doctoral Programme in Sustainability Studies (PhD)

Eligibility:

Master's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline from a recognised university, with at least 55% marks. In case the score is available on a letter-grade system, the Institute expects a minimum cumulative score of 5.5 on a 10-point scale.

How to Apply:

Applicants have to fill up the online application form separately for XUB programme at: www.xub.edu.in. Upon successfully filling the online application form and paying the relevant application fee, the applicant will be intimated by email about the acceptance of the form, followed by admission bulletin 2017 by post/courier.

The last date for applying online is February 14, 2017.

Selection Process:

Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their academic records and SOPs. The shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for Xavier Research Aptitude Test (X-RAT), and Personal Interview. UGC-NET qualified candidates will be exempted from appearing for the X-RAT.

The course work for the selected candidates will commence from June 2017.

Duration of the Programme:

The approximate duration to complete the programme is 4 to 7 years. The first year of the programme will be spent for course work, and the remaining years for completing subsequent steps leading to the doctoral thesis. The maximum duration allowed to complete the PhD is 7 years.

Course- work and Registration:

After the successful completion of course-work and related pre-decided steps such as a no. of review seminars, the student is supposed to give a thesis topic registration seminar. After the successful completion of this seminar, the student’s PhD topic will be registered with Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB).

ProgrammeFee:

a) Officially Sponsored Candidates / Self Sponsored Candidates: In case the organization supports the student’s PhD or the Students decide to sponsor themselves, the fees for this four year programme will be as follows: Rupees three lakhs in the first year and Rupees one lakh each in the second, third, and fourth year, respectively.

b) Partially Sponsored Candidates: In this category of candidates (If found suitable, only for top two candidates), the applicable fees for the four years will be: Rupees seventy five thousand in the first year and Rupees thirty five thousand in the second, and forty five thousand each in the third, and fourth year, respectively.

Scholarship:

In case of deserving full-time student, the academic fee will be waived and a stipend of Rs. 15,000/- per month will be given for a maximum period of 4 years.

Accommodation:

The students will be provided accommodation on campus. The residential expenses will have to be paid by the students separately as per the prevalent rate (current rate is Rs 24,000/- per year (double seated), and mess expenses as per actual. Students can also choose to stay off-campus

Integrated PhD in Sustainability Management

Admission Procedure for First Stage (MBA, 2017-19)

Eligibility:The minimum requirement for admission to the Program is a three-year Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline with at least 55% marks in aggregate from a recognised university. Candidates who expect to complete the final part of their degree examinations by June 15, 2017, can also apply. Offers of admission to such candidates, if made, will be provisional and will be automatically cancelled in the event of their failing to complete all the requirements for obtaining the degree before June 15, 2017.

Admission Test

Applicants are required to take any one of the Admission Tests: a) XAT to be conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur, on 8th January, 2017 or b) CAT to be conducted by IIMs on 4th December 2016, or c) GMAT taken in 2015 or 2016 (minimum score for applying 550), or d) X-GMT to be conducted at Bhubaneswar on 29th January 2017 by Xavier University. Applicants opting for XAT or CAT have to follow XAT/CAT advertisements respectively and apply in time. Registering for XAT/CAT/GMAT is a prerequisite for applying to XIMB/XUB, if not opting for X-GMT.

Applicants also have to fill up the online application form separately for XIMB, XUB programme at: www.xub.edu.in Upon successfully filling the online application forma nd paying the relevant application fee, the applicant will be intimated by email about the acceptance of the form, followed by admission bulletin 2017 by post/courier.

The last date for applying online is December 18, 2016.

It may be noted that besides registering for XAT/CAT/GMAT, one has to apply (online) separately to XIMB, XUB.

Selection Process

The Institute will decide the section-wise as well as total cut-off marks which will be used for short-listing the candidates to be called for Written Ability Test, and Personal Interview. WAT & PI will be held in Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses for appearing in the Interview session. The final selection will be made on the basis of the candidate's performance in the XAT/CAT/GMAT as well as in the Written Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview (which factors in the past academic record and relevant work experience). The selected candidates will be informed by mail in the month of April 2017.

Admission

The first stage (MBA) of the program will begin by the middle of June 2017 for the first year students. At this time the students will be given a Manual of Policies and Regulations which will be binding on them.

Second Stage (PhD)

Eligibility: Those candidates, who secure a minimum cumulative score of 5.5 on an 8-point scale shall qualify to submit the research proposal, and shall be interviewed based on the research proposal submitted by them for admission into PhD.

Scholarships and other supports:

During their final year of MBA, students are encouraged to write UGC-NET test. Those who qualify for JRF shall be provided Junior research fellowship from the University Grant Commission. Duration of the programme:

The minimum time period required to complete the programme is three years after MBA from Xavier University. Broadly this is divided into two parts, the first year for the course work, and remaining two years for writing the doctoral thesis. The maximum duration allowed to complete the PhD is six years. Maximum possible extension to submit thesis after six years is 12 months.

Course work and registration:

After the successful completion of course the candidate is supposed to give a thesis proposal seminar. After the successful completion of seminar, the candidate PhD’s topic will be registered with XU.
